Minutes from Winter Meeting

February 9th, 2007

Kentucky Music Educator’s Association Conference

 

 

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am.  Dues were taken.  Minutes were approved as read with a motion by Chris Cecil and second by Darrell Dockery. 

 

Reports

1.      Band – Troy Stovall

Ø      All-District weekend was a success.  We had 622 students to audition, 290 to make the band, and 32 to go on to All-State.

Ø      TDBDA will be awarding a scholarship beginning in 2008.  More information will be given once the criterion is determined.

Ø      TDBDA will be commissioning another work in 2010 for the 11/12 all-district band.

2.      Choral – Debbie Belcher

Ø     March 3 - solo and ensemble

Ø     April 17 - festival

3.      General Music K-5 – John Hall

Ø     May 5 – Elementary Honors Choir

4.      General Music 6-12 –  Rob Paugh

Ø     May 5 – Middle School Honors Choir; Brad Almquist conductor

5.       Middle Instrumental – Monica Crowder

Ø     Thanks to all who helped at All-District!  The district bands and conductors made the Bowling Green front page.

6.      Orchestra – Angela Rex

Ø     none

7.      College/University – Eric Smedley

Ø     WKU had their centennial celebration.  The commissioned works will soon be released.

Ø     The public school orchestra program is growing with over 350 students now involved.

8.      Festival Manager – Joe Stites

Ø     March 3 – Choral Solo and Ensemble

Ø     April 17 – Choral Festival

Ø     March 2&3 – Instrumental Solo and Ensemble

Ø     April 19-21 – Instrumental Festival

9.      TDMEA President – Brent Burris

Ø     Thank you letter for the donation to the Jim Fern Scholarship

Ø     March 10 – 2008 conference planning; leadership skills sessions requested

Ø     June 23 – BOD meeting

Ø     Tapes submitted for performance at KMEA now have a length requirement.

Ø     Site change for festival will now be turned in with Form I

Ø     District 4/5 will now be split into two separate districts

Ø     State Solo and Ensemble will be postponed until the 2007-08 school year.

Ø     Leslie Lloyd is now our new TDMEA President

1.      Presentation of Awards to District Winners.

Ø      Elementary – Lisa Hussung

Ø      Middle – Sheila Smalling

Ø      High – Debbie Belcher

Ø      College – John Cipolla

Ø      Friend of Music – Dean David Lee

Ø      Citation for Service – Ben Hawkins

2.      Three of our district winners won at the State level:  Lisa Hussung, Sheila Smalling, and John Cipolla.  Congrats!!!
